5th & 6th class planted strawberries and potatoes in March. The boys looked after the plants in the classroom first before moving them outside into our school garden.
5th & 6th class made spicy potato wedges using potatoes that they sowed in the last school year and harvested in September 2021!
5th & 6th class went on a nature walk to observe lichens growing in our natural environment. The boys recorded their findings using a checklist and tablet. We found many lichens which are a good indicator that the air quality is good in Belturbet!
3rd & 4th enjoyed collecting and identifying leaves on their nature walk.
2nd class enjoyed their nature walk along the River Erne. They collected and identified leaves, studied the silver birch tree back in the classroom and learned about the importance of caring for trees.
Energy and Forces
2nd class carried out the 'Dancing Raisins' experiment to investigate how forces act on objects. They also investigated how magnets attract certain materials through other materials.
2nd class loved participating in Science week. One of the many experiments that they carried out was to investigate how materials may be changed by mixing. They mixed baking soda with vinegar to create their own volcanoes!
5th & 6th class carried out three experiments to investigate surface tension. Boys recorded and discussed their findings.
Environmental Awareness and Care
2nd class attended the National Food Waste Separation Roadshow organised by Belturbet Zero Waste. As part of our Green School's all classes are familiar with disposing their waste properly into the correct bins: compost, wormery, general waste and recycling. This year, our school is working towards the Global Citizenship Energy award. The boys are making a conscious effort to conserve energy.
All pupils, from 2nd - 6th class, enjoy taking care of and improving our school environment. 3rd & 4th class are competing in the 'Woodies Budding Gardening' competition this year too! Goodluck boys!
