Step 4: Maths

To Solve real World Problems: 

Hands- on : 2D shapes - constructing using mála and match sticks (identifying how many corners and sides) 
Tangrams in 2nd class 
5th and 6th class: Nets of 3D shapes: 

Maths Week: 

2nd class engaged and participated in a maths shapes hunt for their maths learning.

Maths Eyes: 
5th and 6th class participated in and presented their maths leanring in a maths eyes challenge. 
Using the school tablets, 5th and 6th class searched the indoor and outdoor school environment with their maths eyes. 
They recorded their learning with the school tablets, using photo and video footage. 
They then presented their photos back in the classroom to their class and posed a maths question with each one to stimulate maths thinking. 
​They then entered their photos and evidence to the Maths Eyes competition. See a variety of entries below:

Baking in their pods 

Each class bubble baked in together at least once per term. This helped tto developed their weighing skills in maths, using real life examples and real life situations. 2nd class realised the importance of weighing their ingredients correctly, as the recipe did not work very well if there was too much of one ingredient.

Baking at home: Online learning: 
3rd and 4th class were encouraged to engage in baking at home as part of developing their maths skills during the online learning period in January - March. 

Other:

Developing understanding of core maths concepts using hands-on resources and visual representations (learn by doing) 
One of the key topics of the 2nd class Curriculum is addition with regrouping and subtraction with renaming. Pupils used the notation board and the units and long to represent then tens and units and the renaming process. 
Length: estimating and measuring: 

Online Maths Trail: January via Google Classroom learning Platform 

2nd class completed a maths trail in their homes during the online learning period in January. 
Pupils submitted photos of what they found and drew and answered questions relating to maths in their home environemt. 
They then submitted their own work via Google Classroom in google forms.

Maths art: 

5th and 6th class created optical illusion artwork during the online learning stage in January. 
Creating an otical Illusion art piece is a task that combines art, mathematics and design. It consists of geometric shapes and patterns, and is often coloured in black and white
