2nd and 3rd class held their reading CAFÉ in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The idea of the reading CAFÉ is to promote and encourgae a positive outlook and a love for reading. The boy's parents were invited to come in to the Reading CAFÉ and to read with and to their child, while enjoying some warm drinks and some Christmas themed refreshments. It is so important for the boys (in all classes) to read aloud every night for their homework. This will help to develop their fluency, accuracy and expression. Their comprehension will also develop when you ask them questions about what they have read, for example, what happened in the text, who are the main characters, how did ___ feel when..., what do you think will happen next, what does that remind you of? Reading is so important in many, many aspects of our lives. It helps to develop the mind, develop language skills, encourgaes listening skills, encourages imagination and many, many more skills and knowledge. It is vital for day-to-day tasks and living. A huge thank you to Mrs. Maguire for organising the day and for preparing the pupils for their Christmas poems and recitals. A lot of fun was had by all.
A huge well done to all of the boys for putting on a great Christmas concert on Wednesday. The concert began with 4th and 5th class boys reciting a beautiful Christmas poem as Gaeilge (An Chéad Nollaig). Then we saw 2nd and 3rd class perform the Nativity Play and 6th class playing their recorders. We heard 'Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year' in all of the languages that are spoken by the children in our school. It was lovely to hear such a variety of languages and children proudly speaking it aloud. A number of pupils from different classes recited a beautiful Christmas Prayer in groups and 4th and 5th class then performed and sang 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'. To complete the concert our trad. music group played a number of traditional tunes and Christmas songs. They played very well and it was very enjoyable. Well done everyone and a big thank you to everyone that helped in any way, with serving refreshments, providing goodies for the refreshments, lighting and sound and to all that attended on the day to enjoy the festivities and fun! Happy Christmas to all!
