2nd and 3rd class held their reading CAFÉ in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The idea of the reading CAFÉ is to promote and encourgae a positive outlook and a love for reading. The boy's parents were invited to come in to the Reading CAFÉ and to read with and to their child, while enjoying some warm drinks and some Christmas themed refreshments. It is so important for the boys (in all classes) to read aloud every night for their homework. This will help to develop their fluency, accuracy and expression. Their comprehension will also develop when you ask them questions about what they have read, for example, what happened in the text, who are the main characters, how did ___ feel when..., what do you think will happen next, what does that remind you of? Reading is so important in many, many aspects of our lives. It helps to develop the mind, develop language skills, encourgaes listening skills, encourages imagination and many, many more skills and knowledge. It is vital for day-to-day tasks and living. A huge thank you to Mrs. Maguire for organising the day and for preparing the pupils for their Christmas poems and recitals. A lot of fun was had by all.
