Following the five steps in the engineering process, 2nd and 3rd class created wind turbines.
Step 1 - ask a question (the class were studying renewable and non-renewable energy in science, and decided to focus on renewable energy for their projects)
Step 2 - Plan and brainstorm possible problems (during this stage pupils predicted two important possible problems 1. their tower might fall over when we used the hairdryer and 2. they were going to use masking tape instead of cellotape because if they wanted to paint them, they could not paint over cellotape.
